We all love the outdoors. Unfortunately, our skin often pays the price as the damaging UV light rays cause cumulative damage. Sunblock effectively reduces it, but many people still notice the sun damage, including brown spots and discoloration, rough skin texture, wrinkles and lines, new unsightly blood vessels, and redness. As we age and lose collagen, the skin becomes even less resilient to sun damage, showing signs that were not evident in youth.

Rejuvenate Your Skin with Intense Pulsed Light

Fortunately, treatments such as an IPL Photofacial are a great way to address these issues. Just like teeth cleaning is necessary to keep your teeth healthy and white, with regular treatments, IPL is a great way to keep your complexion radiant and youthful.

What Does the IPL Laser Treatment Do?

The IPL treatment uses high-intensity pulses of light to penetrate the skin and trigger your natural healing process for smoother, healthier, more refreshed-looking skin. The M22 IPL system is unique in its versatility, allowing your provider to customize the wavelength of each treatment to the needs of your skin. This means that the treatments are targeted and multiple issues can be addressed during one session. The IPL module uses SapphireCool Light Guides to provide continuous cooling to maximize patient comfort during the procedure. Finally, the Lumenis M22 uses optimal pulse technology to further reduce treatment tenderness while maximizing results.

What Skin Conditions Can IPL Treat?

The IPL module has been proven safe and effective method of minimizing the appearance of and treating various skin conditions, including:

  • Pigmented lesions
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne
  • Vascular lesions
  • Rough skin texture
  • Spider veins
  • Large pores
  • Rosacea
  • Skin irregularities
  • Sun damage

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

That depends on your skin needs. Someone with good skin and few sunspots may need only one treatment to see marked results. Someone with a lot of pigmentation may need 2-3 treatments 4-6 weeks apart.

Those with Rosacea may need a series (3-4) of treatments, followed by a maintenance regimen, as rosacea is a chronic condition. Telangiectasias and broken capillaries may also need to be treated a few times to be most effective. Treatments are usually spaced 3-5 weeks apart.

How Does M22 IPL Technology Work?

IPL photo-rejuvenation technology treats pigmentation and vascular imperfections while improving your skin’s overall appearance. Light pulses move through the skin, creating heat and targeting skin imperfections in a controlled way. Different wavelengths penetrate the skin at different depths.

The extent of your sun damage and your underlying skin tone will determine which wavelength will work best for you. After treatment, the pigmented lesions become darker. Over the next 5-7 days the treated area flakes off when your body goes through its natural and constant process of exfoliation.

At the same time, collagen and elastin fibers are stimulated, which results in a visible improvement of your skin’s tone and overall appearance. Another wavelength is used to treat rosacea and broken capillaries. Yet another for acne. The M22 IPL also offers variously-sized handpieces, to further customize the treatment.

How Long Will the Results of IPL Last?

Your results will last longer if you take good care of your skin because while IPL treats existing skin problems, it doesn’t prevent new ones from developing. Therefore, it is imperative to continue using a good antioxidant and sunscreen and avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Many people do IPL 2-3 times per year, in the fall to clean up the skin after the summer, and again in the winter and/or spring.

Is the Lumenis M22 IPL Photofacial treatment safe?

Lumenis treatments are developed by laser medical experts, and all treatments, including M22 IPL (Photofacial), are FDA-approved and clinically proven to get results. Advanced technology allows your clinician to adjust the settings according to your skin type, skin color, and the specific skin treatment you choose. It is important to discuss your concerns and let your provider know about any active or pre-existing skin conditions, active infections or topical/oral medications to ensure that your treatment is safe and effective.

What can I expect during my IPL treatment?

When you arrive for your treatment, we will once again evaluate your skin and discuss your concerns and goals. The skin will be cleaned. A cool gel will be applied to the area being treated. Specialized eye coverings will be placed over your eyes to protect them. You can expect to feel a warm sensation and a bright light. The treatment is quick. Your provider may need to do more than one pass using different wavelengths and/or spot sizes to address the different concerns. After the treatment, your skin may feel warm and look flushed. A cooling gel is applied, followed by sunscreen.

What can I expect after my M22 IPL treatment?

There is no true downtime after the IPL. For 2 to 24 hours, you may feel and see your skin flushing. Sometimes patients experience some swelling, depending on how sensitive their skin is. Freckles and hyper-pigmented lesions will turn darker and look dry for four to seven days and then start flaking off gradually and naturally.

What Is the Cost for IPL Photofacial with Dr. Levin?
