How does PRP work?

PRP is created from a small amount of blood taken from your arm. This blood is then spun in a centrifuge, separating out the plasma. The platelets in the plasma are packed together, which causes them to release growth factors. PRP is packed with proteins that stimulate regrowth and cellular regeneration.

PRP is injected into key areas to achieve results. When used in hair restoration, it is injected into the scalp where the hair is thinning. For skin restoration, it is used with microneedling or injected under the eyes to reduce bags.

What are the benefits of PRP?

PRP has many positive benefits, whether you are beginning to notice your hair is thinning or you would like to renew your skin or enhance the healing process and benefits of other treatments. PRP benefits include the following:

  • Short treatment time
  • No downtime or period of recovery
  • Relatively painless
  • Minimally-invasive
  • Extremely low risk, as it uses your natural plasma
  • Can restore hair growth, renew the skin, and help with wound healing

PRP treatments with Dr. Flora Levin

We provide several PRP treatments for our patients. These include skin rejuvenation to reverse the effects of age, post-procedural healing to enhance treatments such as laser, microneedling and others, and hair restoration to regrow a thick, healthy head of hair.

The application of PRP induces collagen production and angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), which has many beneficial and long-lasting effects. This treatment can increase the rate of healing, decrease redness and inflammation seen post-treatment, improve skin texture and tone, reduce fine lines and scarring, and provide overall skin rejuvenation for a more radiant complexion.

And typically, a PRP treatment will take less than one hour.

Skin rejuvenation with PRP
PRP is used to rejuvenate the skin with microneedling treatments. The PRP treatments stimulate collagen growth, help produce new blood vessels, regrow lost fatty tissue, and achieve plumper, healthier, younger-looking skin.

Post-procedural healing benefits of PRP
As an add-on therapy to treatments such as laser and Morpheus8, PRP utilizes a patient’s own stem cells and growth factors to harness the body’s natural repairing mechanisms.

Hair restoration with PRP
To restore a healthy head of hair, PRP is injected into thinning or balding areas of the scalp to trigger dormant or weakened hair follicles to grow hair again. PRP helps restore the hair follicles and achieve healthy hair growth, leaving the hair thicker and stronger.

Results after PRP treatments

The results of PRP treatments take several weeks, as the body is working naturally to rebuild the cells and restore healthy tissues. Because the process is a natural one that builds from within, it will take your body about a month to produce results such as thicker hair, brighter, younger-looking skin, and so on.

For the most significant results, multiple treatments may be needed. You will have a chance to discuss this and determine the best course for your custom PRP treatments during your consultation with Dr. Levin.

While results are not permanent, you will be able to enjoy positive effects for up to two years before another PRP treatment is needed to maintain these improvements.
